1. I've been married 11 months now, so close to a year, and looking forward to many more. :)
2. I think I have OCD tendencies, I can completely control it, but there are ways I like things to be and sometimes I'm compelled to fix something so I feel better about it.
3. I'm am addicted to Minties, I don't need them all the time but if they're in front of me I'll eat them constantly until I make myself sick.
4. I didn't watch Star Wars until I was in my mid-teens and I've loved it ever since.
5. I have a tendency to over-think things which causes me to stress about them, currently I'm thinking too much about BAM which is making me constantly just a little stressed.
6. I'd make a terrible hardened criminal, most times I did something slightly dodgy in school I'd feel immediately guilty and often have to come clean.
7. I suck at remembering dates in the long term, unless I write things on a calendar of some sort I'll forget birthdays, holidays and special events.
8. I don't think I've ever sold anything of mine second hand.
9. In primary school for some reason the cool thing to have was Converse sneakers which my parent's couldn't really afford for me back then, I was so happy once when I found an old pair in an op shop. They were unfortunately really old ones from the 70s which would be cool now, but definitely weren't at the time.

The Soldier

I've been meaning to type this up for a while, I wrote it weeks ago but didn't write the ending.
I wanted to at least do one story which showcased Byrne before I started writing him in relation to Cade.
Anyway, hope you like it. The next thing I'm planning to write is Byrne meeting Cade, so hopefully I might get started on that soon now that he's here. :)

The soldier shuddered against the cold winds as his warm blood spilled silently through his trembling fingers. Clutching hopelessly at his wounded side the steady flow seeped through his thick coat and stained the hard packed snow.
Branching out in tiny rivers the blood mocked him, try as he might, his aching fingers could not keep it in. All around him the bodies of his kinsmen littered the battlefield, he was all alone now, just himself, the wind, and the blood.

Forsaking the tireless flow, the soldier grasped his weapon in one hand and pushed hard against the earth, his body lifted, and he cried out in pain. In one dreadful moment the truth dawned on him, his legs did not move.
His arms, long ago numb from the cold failed him and he fell hard to the bloodied snow, his breath and all hope stolen. Struggling hopelessly to rouse his motionless legs, despair filled him as his helpless limbs did nothing but pin his ailing form to the cold ground.
The snow was dark with blood now, and as an eternity past, he lay silently in it, a gentle snowfall slowly but surely burying him with his comrades. As the white washed over him the soldier thought of his family, his life left behind and all that waited for him. He thought of the battle and those which came before it, and finally he thought of her, and he wept.

A loud cawing split the air and shook the soldier from his lamentation in time for a crow to fill his view as it soared high overhead. He had known the carrion eaters would come, the flesh of his fallen brothers alone would stir them soon enough. Silently he prayed that the cold would take him before the wolves.
The world was turning white as the snowfall fought silently with the deep red pools welling around him, but through the white a dark shape slowly cut a path.

The shape in the snowfall grew sharper as it closed, its hazy form becoming a figure, a beast, or a man.
The soldier stared into the snow, the urge to call out rose in him, he would slowly die if he did not, but if this new figure was the enemy, surely his fate would be worse.
The figure parted the snowfall like a curtain, snowflakes falling onto the black form and being devoured by its darkness. Its thick cloak was jet against the snow, a pristine darkness that drank in the light and left nothing behind. It moved with a weightless grace, each step barely touching the snow and leaving no trace of its presence. It was close now, very close.

The soldier could make out the man now, for that was surely what the figure was, tall, broad and dark against the snowdrift. The man’s hair was long and dark and it met the cloak and became one with it, as if the cloak itself was an extension of the man.
His skin was too dark to be the enemy, but too light to be a comrade, and in the stark contrast of the snowfall it seemed almost grey, though surely the soldier thought, this was a trick of the light.
The man was upon him now, and the soldier realised that he was not afraid; a calm washed over him in the man’s presence, and in his euphoria, even the blood was forgotten.

The man smiled to him and the snow continued to part around him, never once falling upon him or his inky cloak of night. In the man’s shadow all pain washed away, the soldier no longer felt the cold, no longer trembled, and the white snow faded slowly to deep fathomless black.
The man spoke and the soldier felt his words as surely as he heard them, he met the man’s gaze and it was as deep and red as his own blood.
A thin grey hand split the cloak’s darkness and was held out, the soldier reached up, and there was no fear as he took it.
Silently the world fell away, and there was nothing.

Dies of busy

So I've been meaning to do that voice thing since about this time last week, I really have, but after a really busy weekend I got stuck with work all week, and by the time I get home I'm pretty dead to the world.

I'm actually about to go to bed right now because I need to be up at about 3am to get picked up as I'm going to Sydney this weekend for the OzHadou Nationals. I get back from that on Monday, then I'm off again Friday morning to Adelaide for AVcon.

So I will find some time to keep up with the voice thing I promise, but if anyone else wants to do it in the meantime then feel free. :D

The owner of these awesome wings by the ever so talented angsty_os put them up for auction recently and I managed to snag them for Byrne.
It's really lucky because they're pretty much exactly what I wanted for him, and with how insanely busy she is at the moment too I really lucked out to get a pair that've already passed through her process.
So yay, Byrne will be all wingy by some time next month. :D

Ok guys, I think it's time we get this started!
We'll start off with an easy one, and I figure people are going to be reasonably creative anyway, so there's no point restricting them just yet.

Here's the topic:
Tell us all a funny story, it can have happened to you, to a friend of yours, or you could just completely make it up, it doesn't matter, just think of the best story you know, grab your mic/phone/whatever and let us all know.

As for the format, I figure I'll post one each Friday night (Australian time), there's not really any strict time frame, but the idea is to do each one some time during the weekend or week after.
I'll probably record mine tomorrow morning and post it up if I get the chance, but everyone is welcome to start whenever they want.

Ok, so the big question is, what topic do we start with for the first week?
I want it to be something that doesn't scare people off right away, but is still fun.
Thus I was thinking maybe we'd start with telling a funny story from any time in your life or something? The spoken word song and erotica readings sound the most amusing, but I'm afraid might not be the most open start. XD

Here's some suggestions off the top of my head to get you thinking:
- Put on a fake accent and do a poetry reading
- Read a newspaper article in a sexy tone
- Describe an object in front of you as if you're seeing if for the first time and have no idea what it is, see if listeners can guess what it is
- Read out an article or story in a character voice (your own or from a movie/show)

I'll post up the first prompt in a couple of days as I think the weekend is going to be the best chance for most people to do their recordings, so in the meantime, if you have any suggestions then fire away, as a weekly thing we can certainly do any good ones eventually.

It's a shame I took the photos yesterday and not today, as Wicket has now given up on his battle with Mace Windu and has taken to making out with Yoda instead.

Voice challenge - Feeler

So as I finally jumped on that voicepost prompt from a few weeks ago and had a bit of interest from people who'd done it before and those who hadn't, I figured maybe it would be best to expand out the concept a little and give a little structure for anyone who wanted to give it another go.

What I was thinking was maybe (one a week?) I'd post a topic or theme for everyone to post on, and then you'd have that time to prepare and post something.
The key would be the topics, some examples include:
- Tell a funny story that happened to you growing up
- Do a spoken word version of a song
- How do you pronounce certain words, make up a sentence for each
- Read a small except from a piece of erotica

Anyway, I'm sure once we get thinking there'd be heaps of awesome and hilarious topics, and I'm sure it'd be heaps of fun coming up with them. Please feel free to reply with more if you can think of some.

That said, I think this is something that works best in a reasonable sized group, so who'd be up for it?
There's really no obligation, it's all a bit of fun, so if you don't like a topic, you don't need to do it, but it's more fun if you do. XD

Rotorua picture update

On the way to Napier on Thursday kawaii_mon and I stopped at a few volcanic hotspots around Rotorua.

Our first stop-off was Buried Village, which is a town which was settled in the late 1800s to early 1900s around some volcanic activity and quickly became a popular tourist spot even then.
The volcano erupted in the middle of the night and buried the entire town in volcanic mud before they were able to escape.
We didn't take alot of photos of the village itself as I think it requires a bit more context for those kind of shots to be interesting, but there is a stream and waterfall that runs through the property which we had to trek down a bunch of steps to get to and back from, so here's a couple of pics of that instead. :)

Also we stopped by Orekai Korako (also called The Hidden Valley), which requires you to cross the lake in a boat to get to this enclosed little island area of geysers, hot pools and caves, it was very cool, but there were waaaay too many steps involved. XD

The steps to get back up, unfortunately couldn't get a shot without people on the steps.

(I wrote this yesterday, but didn't get a chance to post it until today)

If any of you read Mon's journal I'm sure you'll know we're currently in New Zealand on our honeymoon, and having a great time. :D
That said, I figured I'd give a quick run-down of what's been going on, if only so I don't forget it all later.

We arrived into Auckland on Friday, which was pretty exciting for me seeing I've never been out of the country before, I kept thinking I was going to say something stupid or in a suspicious way to a custom's offical and get chosen for a "random cavity search".
Anyway we got through completely fine, and decided to grab lunch before we picked up our car.

Our first offical meal in NZ was Maccas, pretty lame, but it gave me my first chance to hand over this weird money, half expecting that they'd look at me strangely and tell me not to give them play money.
But all was well, I ate this weird burger called "The Boss" which is like a Double Quarter Pounder with lettuce and Tartare Sauce, and was incredibly sloppy.
Also they gave us packets of "Fancy Ketchup" which made me laugh.

Picked up the car after a short shuttle ride involving two guys with the strongest and most stereotypical NZ accents I've heard yet and tried not to giggle at all the words they pronounce in odd ways. Notable mentions from the trip so far are Subaru as Su-BARoo and Cervical as cer-VIkul.
In fact I can't watch NZ TV without cracking a goofy looking smile at some of the accents, there's just no fucking way to take some people seriously, it doesn't matter what they said, my current favourite is one guy on ads for C4 who believes that 90210 should be pronounced with 210 being a one syllable word which should be said as quickly as humanly possible.

Anyway, got to our hotel with only one minor setback, being that we turned the wrong way to get to the hotel's car park and it took us 10 minutes of dicking around in backstreets that ended in dead ends and carparks before we could get back and finally park :S

Auckland was nice, but we spent most of the time lazing about either in the room or in coffee shops. We checked out the museum, which was great, but very tiring as we looked at everything and that took about 3 hours as well as the walking to and from, so we basically wiped ourselves out on the first day.
Had dinner the first night at a Thai restaurant, and are trying very hard not to go back to another Thai restaurant, which is not to say that it wasn't nice, it definitely was, but we've seen another 10 or so Thai restaurants since then and they by far seem to outnumber every other type of restaurant around here, so we're rooting for the underdogs.

Hamilton was pretty boring, we weren't really interested in shopping, so we spent most of the day in the hotel room watching awesome B grade movies about rogue marine commandos and the bad terminator from Terminator 2.
I will say however, I've started to notice a really bizzare trend, and I'm curious to see if anyone else has seen this, a disturbingly large amount of people in New Zealand indicate the wrong direction when they're turning.
At first I thought it was just one dude on the way to Hamilton, but I've seen at least 3 or 4 of them since, and I'm curious as to how this is even remotely sane?
They literally indicate one direction, and then a second later, go the opposite way, what kind of anarchistic shit is this?

From Hamilton we drove to the Waitomo caves, got there in good time despite being tailgated by a crazy truck driver for the last 5 minutes, but had an awesome day anyway.
We checked out the biggest cave first (called Raikuri), we had a very laid back Maori guide, who made me realise that I've been pronouncing Maori wrong all the time.

There were only 2 other couples in our group, so it was nice and relaxed and really put us at ease. Next we did the Glowworm cave, which was far more touristy, and I think there was about 30 people in our group, including some annoying cocky Americans of the type you just want to punch from the time you meet them. The Glowworm section was beautiful though, and everyone basically shut up as they were told to, so it was definitely worth it.
Lastly before we left we had a nice little picnic, then checked out the Aranui caves, which while small were the taller, more open caves of the lot, and fascinating in their own right. I also got my first "Sweet Bro" directed at me, so that made it worth it right there.
All up it was a very tiring, but I'm a big fan of exploration, urban or otherwise, so it was an awesome day.

We're in Rotorua now, which is really beautiful, and very very touristy, the whole main part of the town is made up of restaurants, hotels and little shops, it kind of reminds me of Lakes Entrance in that respect, except that Rotorua smells like farts.
Not all the time of course, but I assume because of the geysers and volcanoes in the area, theres intermittenly alot of sulfur in the air, so you'll be walking around the streets, and all of a sudden you'll hit this patch of fart smell, or you'll be a second from falling asleep, and the earth rips one, it's slightly distracting. XD

Anyway, so far we've checked out the Paradie Valley Springs wildlife park, which was really cool, especially seeing the Lion feeding, but most of all I get this child-like joy from feeding farm animals, so it was alot of fun to feed the pigs, sheep, donkeys etc...
The cutest thing was this little bird who followed us everywhere we went for about 15 minutes, I wish we had food for him because he definitely deserved it for the effort, but alas.
I took a couple of reasonable shots, so I'll post them up with this post, but if you want to see most of the shots we took it's best to check out Mon's recent posts.

We were supposed to go to Hell's Gate today, which is a thermal park filled with bubbling mud and stuff, but Mon wasn't really feeling up to it, and I'm pretty burnt out too, so we spent the day hanging instead, which is really nice in it's own way.
We're off to Napier tomorrow, which should be a reasonable drive, especially seeing we're going to be stopping off at a few volcanic things along the way, so I fully expect to be spent tomorrow night, but it'll be a great day.

1. What do you hate most about your own gender?
I'm not sure I've ever thought a lot about this, but I've never liked the double standards, there's still a lot of ways that the attitude towards men is vastly different to women in society, and that's at best, don't get me started about more indoctrinated parts of the world.

2. How did you visualise your life 5 years ago, is it anything like it is now?
You know what, it probably is, 5 years ago I was still at Uni, and my plan was always to graduate, get basically the job I have now, and settle down. I don't know why, but that's always been pretty much it. I've never really been much of a player you might say. XD

3. If you could change one thing about yourself in the blink of an eye what would it be and why?
I'd probably choose to be in better shape, it's been a long time since I've done any sport or regular physical activity, it got too hard to balance with Uni, and since then I've really just been lazy. I'm a little dissapointed in myself that I gotten so unfit.

4. Liz is totally hot, can I keep her? I think her and Emlen would be hotness plus ;_;

I checked the Fairyland order page today out of curiosity and saw that she'd been dispatched from Korea on the 24th, so I expect she'll turn up early next week.

I noticed Raila was taking commissions recently, so I jumped on the chibi bandwagon. Figured it was a waste to get just Bella done, so got a nice Phoenix and Eiji couple one done too :D
I'm very happy with the way they came out, especially Bella who's starting to build quite an little art gallery of herself with awesome artists like Arenheim and Spazzly also doing her justice :D
Just a shame I don't have Liz yet, I'll have to get some more done later perhaps :S

Anyway, it made me very excited when I got into work this morning :D

The Twilight Movie

Mon, Aeryn and I just watched it fully expecting it to be so, just for the lols, and many lols were had.

Man the acting in that thing was terrible, the entire thing just felt like a low budget straight to DVD student film.
Anyway, I haven't read the books, please don't tell me they're good, I knew what to expect before XD

I will say though, the guy who played Carlisle was pretty amusing, he was the most obvious vampire ever created, and the girl who played Alice was cute.

But oh god, dialogue... wtf, look I know people are awkward, but even if you found a way to do that well, don't do it for EVERY LINE IN THE FILM.

But yes, I lol'd.

I spent like 5 minutes trying to get a shot that wasn't completely blurry and out of focus in this shitty low light.
Plus I cheated and fixed my skin colour so I wasn't bright orange from the house lights XD

So I think I was tagged a while back for this but forgot about it, but Mon tagged me as well, so I figure I may as well XD

2. New season of Dexter starting (well pre-air), and I've found the audiobooks
3. Work, I can't imagine doing something for work that I'd enjoy more than making games
4. Street Fighter IV being out in the arcades, I haven't played it much yet, but I'm really enjoying it
5. Couch Warriors is going well, the new venue is great and opportunities are starting to open up
6. I've been bringing my stick in to work recently, I think I'm going to forgo some TF2 to practice a bit more, I'm kind of disappointed with how bad my 3S and AC game has gotten
7. Dolls, I'm finding the hobby really satisfying, and I've been able to channel alot of creative energy into the characters, plus I've met some really awesome people.
8. The HIM version of Wicked Game. I fucking love this song.
9. Mon made pancakes yesterday!
10. I'm hesitant to put the wedding here, it makes me happy, but also stressed, I'll be happy when it's all in swing, but right now I'll just say I'm happy ABOUT it :)
